Pillo Jam 2014: Planet Search

Planet Search on Pillo Games and on Facebook

Concept

Control a spaceship thruster with your Pillo. Nuff’ said!
Your friend controls the other thruster with his Pillo. Good luck trying to navigate the solar system. You’ll need it.

Planet Search was a game prototype conceived and built during the 2014 Pillo Summer Jam. Goal was to create a game controlled by Pillo that can be played together. The Pillo is a stuffed pillow including some electronics that detects when the pillow is deformed. These signals can be received by the game, much like, for example, the analog stick on a gamepad or joystick.

The game has half a dozen different planets, each with a different size and gravity. Gravity work much like it normally would. With enough finesse, it is possible to insert yourself into a stable orbit around a planet.

The smallest planet can barely catch you, and you’ll easily fly past it by accident if you try to visit it. The biggest planet pulls you down hard and requires a large thrusting run to lift of again and gain escape velocity.

You can plant a flag on the planet when landed, to mark which ones you’ve visited. Other players who played on the same machine may have done the same, before you, in which case you’ll see planets covered in flags like those cheese snacks at parties.

The game looks good, and is fun for a while, but unfortunately the gimmick wears off rather quickly.
